The primary role of the Health and Safety Representative (HSR) is to liase with other staff members to identify issues which have the potential to have a negative impact on the health and safety of their work colleagues.
This course aims to provide participants with knowledge, skills and confidence to enable them to exercise their powers and functions for the purpose of representing members of their work groups.
Since COVID-19 restrictions, Recovre has been approved by SafeWork NSW to deliver this course via connected delivery on an online platform. Delivery of the course can be spread over half days or full days dependent on the needs of the participants
Fees include:
• Training conducted by an experienced WHS consultant with industry experience, including experience at delivering training remotely
• Assistance with utilizing the Zoom platform
• Participants’ notes and a full copy of the WHS Act 2011, an excerpt of the WHS Regulation 2017, and relevant Codes of Practice.
• Postage of materials to participants
• A certificate to certify requirements of the course have been met

Who should attend?
Entitlements to attend these courses:(Under the WHS Act 2011 and related Regulations & Compliance Codes)
• All elected HSRs and Deputy HSRs are entitled to undertake the Safework NSW approved HSR Initial 5 Day training course and choose their
training provider in consultation with their employer.
• An employer, if requested, must allow an elected HSR and elected Deputy HSR to attend a SafeWork NSW approved HSR Initial 5 Day training course on paid time, pay the cost of the course and any other associated costs.

• New terminology, objectives and implications for consultation
• Key parties with WHS legislative duties and functions
• Role and function of SafeWork NSW and offences and penalties under the WHS Act 2011
• Consultation, representation and participation arrangements under the WHS Act 2011
• Election and role of HSRs and deputy HSRs in the workplace
• Obligations of a PCBU to HSRs and protections for HSRs from discrimination
• Other consultation mechanisms
• Strategies and skills for HSRs to support effective consultation
• Representing workers as a HSR - negotiation and issues resolution
• Monitoring PCBUs' management of work health and safety risks
• Workplace inspection and recording findings - including practical exercise
• Obligation in relation to 'notifiable incidents' and resources available to assist HSRs
